You Betcha!

This week, as wonderfully as always, we're meeting in the Delaware Room in the HUB, 7pm.

If you've never come, feel completely free to do so. There's always someone new, so you won't be the only one.

We've got a good God. Let's get together and celebrate that!

Man Night/Woman Night

Friends and others,

On Saturday (the 25th) at 5:45pm, we'll be meeting at the HUB circle...

The girls will be eating dinner and watching a girly movie at the Wallworks...

The guys will be eating meat and doing other man-related things. DO NOT EAT BEFOREHAND. We'll be doing plenty of eating together. Meat. Free meat. Grilled over the fire.

Both genders bring warm clothes (just in case there's a spontaneous game of guys vs. girls hide & seek after the festivities).

What's More Powerful Than Evil?

Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— (Romans 5:12)

"It would seem like sin is the most powerful force in the world. It’s the cause of all human misery... sin severs us from God, and brings down upon our heads the judgment and the retribution of God against our transgressions. Is there anything more powerful than sin?"

Yes, there is! Visit TheBlazingCenter.com (the Altrogge's blog) to hear the rest of this story and to read a quick summary of Mark's message last night...

More info to come on Saturday's guys/girls nights...

Five Truths Every Christian Should Know...

#1 We now have peace with God
#2 Since we have peace with God, we can always rejoice
#3 We were brought to peace with God while we were enemies
#4 Since we have peace with God, we can be assured that we will ultimately stay saved
#5 All gifts from God are intended to generate praise to God

Suggestion: Take one of these truths each day this week. Think about it. Praise God for it. Savor it. Thank God for it. Each one of these truths are amazing. Let's let God change our day through these truths!

Tuesday's Message - Romans 3:21-26

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Video Scavenger Hunt!

The best time of your life!

A video scavenger hunt is this Friday's amazing activity! Tons of fun, and even more fighting, this will blow your hilarious genes. Just kidding about the fighting part.

Where: Meet at the HUB circle, and hunt all over Indiana.

When: 6:45, to break into teams.

What: What is a "video scavenger hunt" you ask?

Here are some of the rules:

-Teams should establish two captains, one being the driver of the vehicle for the team and the other being an Indiana native, or someone knowledgeable of the layout and back streets of Indiana.
-Each team will be given one video camera, 10 sheets of white paper (for 10 tasks), and a sharpie.
-You will work together to complete and film each task.
-The entire team must come to the Wallworks at 8:30p.m. regardless of how many tasks you have yet to attempt
-At approximately 8:40p.m. all of the participants will gather to watch the team videos

The scoring is based on a complex rubric (which each team will be given), and we'll watch the videos at the end of the night (they're usually pretty hilarious).

Here are some sample tasks from past years:

-Film the courthouse clock at exactly 8:12pm
-Carry a teammate through the Oakgrove while humming the "Superman" theme
-At a fast food restaurant, order mayonnaise in your coffee. A team member must then drink it.

Who knows what tasks await us this year!
(Don't worry, your team won't make you do anything you don't want to do)

Questions? Contact Megan W. at dkmn@iup.edu

See you there!

When: 1 pm, this Sunday (the 21st)
Where: Marty and Maryann Drago's house, 660 Chestnut Street
Why: Why not?

How to get there:

(a) meet at the HUB circle at 12:45,

Posers

Here's an excerpt from the text that Joe read on Tuesday...

"So when you, a mere man, pass judgment
on them and yet do the same things, do you
think you will escape God's judgment?"
(Romans 2:3)

The apostle Paul was confronting the Christian "Posers"; people who say they follow Christ but with hearts haven't been changed from the inside-out.

Great news, though! Paul says in a another letter that if we try to get to God by keeping his commandments, we'll fail miserably and come under the curse of God's judgment.

But Paul quickly follows with,

"Christ Redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us."
(Galatians 3:13)

Jesus really died for real sinners who really need to be rescued from the real judgment we really deserve!

Stay posted for some thoughtful questions for application and details on this Sunday's cookout later this week...

The Really Bad News

Last night, Joe spoke about the wrath of God. He reminded us that in order to appreciate the good news, we have to understand the bad news.

Compare his two key passages:

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth." (Romans 1:18)

...and...

"But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ"
(Ephesians 2:4-5)

This week...
- Let’s think about where we were before God grabbed us.
- Let’s think about who Jesus is and what he had to do to save us.
- Let’s thank God for his rich kindness to us!

Flagstone Theater is that outdoor, stone stage outside of the Oakgrove. It's along Pratt drive near the construction.
You may have never noticed it before, but it's there (hopefully).

The following week (September 16th) we'll be back in the Delaware room. We'll be there for the rest of the year.

With questions, email benandjanmurphy@yahoo.com

Joe will be giving a great (hopefully) message on the book of Romans! See you at Flagstone!

Application Questions from Tuesday Night

Last night, Joe said that as Christians we should have an "eager obligation" to spread this great news to people who don't know it (referring to Romans 1:14-17). He said that this news about Jesus taking our punishment for us is the only message that has ever saved anyone. Great communication of the truth, Joe!

Some questions to ask yourself...

Do you feel an obligation to share the gospel with others? Why or why not?

Do you feel an eagerness to share the gospel with others? Why or why not?

Joe said that if he gave his friend Tyler a billion dollars on the condition that he would be generous with it, Tyler would be under an obligation (yet a joyous one!) to give to others. How can we develop this same mindset with the gospel we have? What truths about God do we forget that lead us to think otherwise?

How can the following scriptures encourage you in this area? Hebrews 13:20-21, Romans 5:6-8, Romans 10:13-15

"No, Not The State..."

Applications Questions From Last Night

Hey Friends,

Here are some application questions from last night's message. I would encourage you to think through how these apply to your life and to share your thoughts with others.

_How should knowing that Jesus called you when you were a sinner affect your heart? Is your love for God affected by the truth that Jesus came looking for you?

_David encouraged us to remember the specific ways that God drew us to himself. How did Jesus draw you to himself?

_David encouraged us to be friends of sinners. Would you call yourself a friend of sinners? What keeps you from spending time with those who don't know Jesus?

_What is one way that you can grow in being a friend of sinners?

Have a great week!

-Stephen
